These guys are definitely no newcomers to the scene, as they have been around since 2000. However, I came to know about this amazing band only recently. It’s amazing how I can miss out on them for such a long time, considering that they have 45,152,608 plays on Last.fm(only mainstream bands hit figures that high: the kooks have 50,518,033 plays).
The whole album is a good listen, with two particular tracks that stood out immediately from the rest.
Jesus Christ(track 3) - simple yet intriguing guitar riffs. The lyrics hits home, so close to your heart that you wonder if the song was written about you.
Degausser(track 4) - 5 minutes of emotional uphills and downhills. Reminds me alittle of Anberlin – *Fin.
Steve Aoki and Bob Rifo of the Bloody Beetroots are collaborating to form a hardcore punk band.
CAN I GET A WTF?
They are making hardcore sound like a joke. Please take your hipster music somewhere else, to the clubs or whereever fuck. Oh wait, they are already doing it.
FUCK MY ASS. Wheres are the guitars? Where is the drum? If you spin tracks and sing over it, you don’t call yourself a musician. Brokencyde would be a better term.
Perhaps the greatest music genre ever known to mankind, and the fucking beardcore guys who perfected this exquisite genre; Here I present to you the Kings of Southern Hardcore, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster.
Maylene and the Sons of Disaster – Maylene and the Sons of Disaster
Take dirty southern rock and throw in some hardcore elements and you will get a band full of drunk angry men with beards capable of hiding sean gaynotalentfatcantsingforhismallnuts kingston in them, playing bluesy, groovy riffs that is sure to bring out the redneck in all of us. As of now, Maylene has released three albums, self-titled, II and III. Of this three, I dig their self-titled and II the most as hardcore elements are the most prevalent in those two. Anyways, Maylene is moving away from hardcore and more towards southern rock, which is evident in III, where the hardcore vocals are so much lesser as compared to their s/t and II. What’s more I just read on their myspace that ‘Step Up’, a song from III, is featured on WWE. THIS IS CLEARLY NOT A GOOD SIGN.
At present, more and more people are downloading music and buying lesser albums and cds. This is due to the fact that music is so readily available everywhere online. It is just a click away from downloading the latest albums realeased by your favourite artists and bands. Sometimes, you don’t even have to download it. Your friends will send them to you over instant messenging softwares.
The big question is: Is this an issue to be worried about?
NO.
The music industry is evolving, and how music business is done now compared to 10 years ago differs vastly. With the introduction of internet, music sharing has never been simpler. The model of the music business is taking on a different form now, and a change of mindset is needed for the big players in the music industry to remain relevant with the competition from smaller indie record labels.
I am strongly for downloading music the ‘illegal’ way. Let’s see, if I send a song to 10 of my friends, and each of them sends to 10 of their friends, the numbers just keep growing. The song spreads, the artist/band gets heard, and gains exposure as well.
This is the new model of modern music industry. And record labels have to recognise that in order not to become obsolete. Bands can no longer depend solely on their album sales to generate income.
However, bands still can gain their revenues through other ways.
Touring,
Sales from merchandises
Live shows
People are willing to pay to see a band live when they like the band or at least have heard of them. Filesharing allows bands to get exposure more easily. Not everyone can afford to buy the music that they are interested to try out, and filesharing helps just that. People download the music to try them, and if they happen to like it, they are willing pay to see the bands live and buy their merchandises. So that means the bands have to tour and hold gigs more often, which means they cant hide behind their recordings anymore. They have to sound good live, in order for people to want to watch them perform.
This is a tribute to my favourite youtuber, the one and only(or two) Smosh. You have probably heard of the name, since they are currently the number 3rd most suscribed comedians on youtube. Nigahiga ranks at the very top, while Fred stands at number 2. I have no idea how Fred can get 1 million plus suscribers when his videos are all practically rubbish, and did I mention not funny at all?
Anyways back to Smosh, they have always been my favourite comedians on youtube, and are recipients of 2006 Youtube’s Best Comedy Award. Smosh consists two best friends Ian and Anthony, where they put up videos of themselves in random silly plots. Well, they used to be funny, back when they didn’t have to worry about maintaining view counts, or hitting a certain amount of new suscribers everyday. Their sense of humour reminds me of Andy Milonakis, of which I enjoy alot.
Like other popular acts on youtube, Smosh has cashed in on its popularity by setting up a website to sell their own merchandises. http://www.smosh.com. Being the third most suscribed channel has its benefits. From the revenue-sharing system youtube adopts where the uploader gets a cut of the profit made from the video, to the sales generated from selling merchandises. They even had a deal to produce two music videos for the band “I Set My Friends on Fire”. Youtube has certainly turned them into celebrities.
Here’s an old video of them when they first started out.
And compare it to this recent one.
What is this I see? Sad to say, I miss their old videos back before they sold out. I guess this is the way howthings always end up. When you get popular, you tend to esell out to please the masses, and create sub-par quality videos void of any passion.
Till this day, I remain as a hopeful suscriber, praying that one day, Smosh can produce funny videos like they used to, where it is not about money-making or to please anyone.
Just as the title says, this album was made to make you dance. Not dance in J.U.S.T.I.C.E sense, but more towards moshing type of dance. For fans of Pop-Punk and Post-hardcore, this is their best album, the perfect blending of the two genres, and the one and only Secret Lives! of the Freemasons. Too bad they disbanded(RIP)
Today I am going to introduce to you the legendary ” The Get Up Kids”. No they are not your MTV faux-emo bands like My Chemical Romance(I like their second album though), 30 Seconds to Mars, Fall out boy shit. They are the real deal. The real emo. They have good lyrics, catchy songs and is partly the reason I got into emo. Oh yea I almost forgot, they are playing next year at SoundWave Festival 2010. Sunny Day Real Estate will be playing too, how fucking crazy is that? I’m so fucking going, see you guys there. (Must save up… must start saving…)
